I must say internet has made me really dumb. The first thing I do in the morning is to check the online edition of the paper I work with to see if my byline is there. And then I do all the useless stuffs, like FBing, Gtalk and all that jazz. Not that I am a social butterfly but still I don’t know why I check FB status every minute and I don’t even chat! It’s been nine months since I last read a book and I have all the time in the world! OK, I am not getting my MTS recharged next month.

It was my off and I ended up doing stuffs I did not want to do, yes I was glued to my laptop. All my roommates eagerly wait for their offs while I am only better when I am working. They all have boyfriends, some are in the same city some are not. Those who are here have gala time and those who are not here have their weekly dose of “ muaah and I love you” on phone. Great. So, the moral of the story clearly is – No boyfriend, no life. That’s fine , what is not fine is the ‘sympathetic’ words I get to hear from these girls time to time. You will also get one soon. Why do you want to have a boyfriend when you old enough to get married and hell like that.

There’s one roommate who shares each and every detail of her sex life like she and her boyfriend are the only creatures on the planet who ever had sex. My god I find that a bit cheap, it’s fine once in a while but why to talk about it everytime you do it!

And thank god I never get offs on Sundays else it would have been so boring. I mean imagine being alone in the flat when others are having fun with their men. Weekdays are no different, they would not go for movies as they always watch movies their boyfriends only. They won’t out to eat because they have to meet their boyfriends. And even if they do, they would call their boyfriends too and it’s definitely no fun watching them holding hands, hugging and kissing. Sigh

Yes, they only think of me when their boyfriends ditch them. Obviously they know I have nobody to go out with!

But man these girls have pataoed nice guys. They get their girls loads and loads of chocolates and I eat most of them.

And cooking, it’s fun but what I don’t like is vegetable shopping. I stock up and they finish so fast! And also I hate dish washing. But cooking is much better than eating outside. And I haven’t learnt to make perfect roties.

Jaipur may boast of its history and passion for kite flying but the state of his 75 –year-old kite runner definitely cuts a sorry figure. “ I have stopped participating in kite festivals as I never got any support from government. The government keeps talking about what all it does to preserve dying arts, isn’t kite flying one of them”, he asks. He further said that government abroad would only sponsor his air tickets. “ They say either take the prize money or the money for air tickets”, he adds.

The kite runner who had participated in kite festivals in Taiwan, France, USA and many other countries believes the system that prevails in India is same as kite flying. “ The Dangal system in kite flying is only prevalent in India and our government works the same way. In abroad people just fly their kites high irrespective of Dangal and their government works the same way. This explains why they have flourished and we have not”, he reasons.
Khan has been making living from kites since the tender age of ten. “That’s when my parents died”, he says. His family comprises wife, two sons and a daughter. Both his sons have their separate kite business and the daughter is still in school.

Bastard. May he rot in hell! Fuck! What made him think that I could be his girlfriend? I mean, wasn’t I just too good for him? How could he even think that I can be his girlfriend? Just because I would talk to him till dawn and let him recharge my phone? And he thought I belong to him? So what if I took all those Archies teddy or Zara earrings, It really doesn't mean I like him or something. I made very clear to him that I like him as a friend and he still kept forcing me. Why? Just because I go for long drive and coffee with him four times a week?

And today when I asked him to pick my dog from parlour he text me saying he is with his girlfriend and would talk later! My god ! Can you believe that? I mean he was the one who proposed me with two dozen of roses, ferrero rocher chocolates and the Zara skirt I saw while I was roaming with him in the mall. I took all the stuffs and clearly told him that I like him as a friend only

Next day I told all my friends that he proposed me and it was a BIG NO from my side. I mean he is cute but I know I deserve someone cuter and MUCH richer. I noticed that he was ignoring me but I was feeling so bad about him, how could I leave him alone. I held his hand and told him he is my best friend and don’t want to lose him.

He would tell me at least once a week that he loves me and also help me selecting nail polish , lipstick, scarf etc and sometimes even pay for them!

Once I told him that I want my man to take me for candle light dinner at Taj and next day he called me and said that he has a surprise for me. I knew I was going to have exotic dinner at Taj.

He proposed me again and this time with a ring. Just loved the ring! I guess it was a diamond. But I told him again that I like him as a friend. As I said that he put the ring back inside his pocket. Bastard! He couldn’t see the love for ring in my eyes and he says he loves me.

He kept calling me but I didn’t take any of his calls. Once I was at Pizza Hut with Abhishek ( he likes me but I don’t , he is not my types) and he was pestering me with his calls. I thrashed him like anything and told him that he was a loser. A dog who wags his tail in front of me.

He didn’t call me for two weeks. It’s not that I was worried about him but I was still missing him. And today when I called him and asked to pick my Poochi from Nail Spa parlour he said he got a girlfriend and he is busy.

Ok before I write another crappy post let tell you all my magical papad ki sabzi recipe.

Recipe:

Serves two and if you are a monster like me, you can eat it all alone.

2-3 Kaccha papad

1 cup yogurt

1 t spoon coriander powder

Half spoon cumin powder

Half spoon garam masala

A pinch of haldi

Half spoon Mirchi powder

Onion ( optional)

Half t spoon Mustard seeds

Method- Put all the masalas except mustard seeds into yogurt and whisk it for 10 minutes

Put Kadhai on fire, pour some oil and add mustard seeds and onion if you wish too. Wait till onion turns golden brown and then add that yogurt. Keep stirring it for five minutes. Now add some water if the gravy is too thick. Break papad into small pieces( Haan tukde tukde kar daalo) and add into the gravy. Now taste it and add salt accordingly but be careful papad already has plenty of it.

So the recent affidavit by planning commission says that you are not poor if you are earning Rs 32 a day. One can’t avail schemes like MNREGA and other schemes meant for BPL people if one is earning Rs 32 a day. See it like that – there is a man, his wife and five kids ( hell yes, there is only one thing they are capable of), if kids are grown up say all of them are above three, then most probably the women will be working too. And those kids, if some are above 10, most probably they will be working too. They have too. Fuck Sarv Siksha Abhiyan, they have mouths to feed.

And about the accommodation? Most of them don’t get Indira Awaas ( google that). They will have to pay for the Jhuggi. Suppose there are four earning members in the family and they manage to make some 32*4 =108 a day, which means 108 *30= 3240 a month.

Rs 3240 a month for a family of seven. Did planning commission calculate this while making this plan sitting on cushioned chairs in air-conditioned conference room? I bet their Chai Naasta would have costed more than 3240.

I live all alone and I know Atta daal ka bhaav. Rs 32 a day won’t get you 1200 calorie diet( the WHO standard) not even they buy stuffs from Fair Price shops!. Damn and my trainer at gym says I should not consume more than 1000 calories a day.

This Rs 32 benchmark for BPL for a country like India where 9188727839030399393 ( This is not my phone number, I just typed it!) has been wasted on scams is nothing but a humiliation to the nation.

This plan will remove poor and not poverty!

ESPN guy and Paapad ki sabzi

Dating this guy let’s call him ESPN guy simply because he works with ESPN. We met at some Golf event after usual hiz helloz we came out and he took out cigarettes. Gold flake light it was. When I asked for one he said “you too smoke?” His eyes almost popped out. So, he didn’t expect bespectacled over weighted girl dressed in lose Kurta and chappals to smoke. It was quite an insult, I took one long drag and exhale the stream of smoke from my nose! He just smiled and we left after exchanging our contact numbers and gmail ids.

We didn’t even ping each for six months forget calling! And one fine day he pinged me. He was in Colombo to cover World Cup and I was jobless. He asked me which team is going to lift the cup and I said “Obviously Australia.” And as a true patriot he said “ It is going to be India, this time.”

I asked him why he said that. He replied “first you tell me why you are a journalist”. I replied “because I could not become anything else!” I asked him why is he in ESPN and he said because he wanted to be there. “I would see those people covering cricket and think man I want to be one of them.” He said he liked my Golf story and said I have a long way to go and should not give up and also I should have some goddamn respect for this profession.

And India won. I was in Jaipur watching the finals in my new office and man I was not even thinking of him. At 3 he text me that said “see I told you”

I didn’t reply, I had nothing to say. After four months he mailed me. I had changed my number and he wanted the new one.

He called after 30 seconds I mailed him my number. It was my off and I was in the kitchen. He asked me what I am cooking. I said papad ki sabzi. “ Papad ki sabzi !! He gushed. Papad ki bhi sabzi hoti hai” . I told him it is a Rajasthani Delicacy and really tastes yum.

He called again and it was my off again. He was in Jaipur and wanted to see me. And guess what! He wanted me to cook papad ki sabzi for him. Now that was too cheesy, I mean how could I do that. I didn’t even know this guy well and he was asking me to cook for him. But man he was serious he really wanted me to do that.

Alright I made the delicacy and fluffy white rice to go with. As he had the first bite in his car , he held my hand and said “ Marry me.”

FUCK I was hating him from the core of my heart. I was actually feeling like puking. I didn’t say a word. I asked him where we would go. He went to Nahargarg fort and rest was too filmy. Nice weather, a not so shy girl, a confused guy and some sutta (Ok this was not too filmy)

He liked the way I looked. I was lighter, had better hair and wore contact lenses. We talked talked and talked. Man he was actually making me talk. Trust me when I say it is a tough job.

He drove back to Delhi after dropping me home. Next day he text me “ I liked your contact lenses”. I knew what he meant. Those were transparent lenses. I text back “ you mean you you liked my eyes.” He just sent a smiley.

How cheesy this guy could be. I mean obviously he couldn’t say “ I liked your boobs” but eyes?

I was not at all thinking of him until he called next. We talked for 4 hours, about books, personal lives of celebs, our editors, dreams, past, future and you name it.

And the first thing I did the next morning was to check my phone to see if he has texted me. Man , why on earth he would do that.

He text me in the night saying he will be in Jaipur again to see me.

While running and panting on treadmill, I was watching news channels that were continuously telecasting Narendra’ Modi’s fast stories.

First of all I don’t understand the motive behind the 3-day fast. Is fasting really IN? First Anna Hazare then Baba Ramdev and now Narendra Modi. I am also planning to fast, no not “for my country” but to detoxify my body. Monday or Thursday? I am confused.

OK back to Mr Modi. I heard it is Prashchtaap for Godhra Riots. Hmmm, s Miss Mayawati are you listening? Do you regret for all those scams and man your wikileaks Khulasa was too much! You actually sent empty plane to Mumbai to get your Sandals?? Anurag Kashyap should make THAT GIRL IN YELLOW BOOT-2 just for you!

I wish I could sleep whole this month and wake up when it ends. Yes, September 2011 has brought all the bad luck with it. It has dug a BIG BIG hole in my pocket and the hole is only getting bigger. Today I lost my Nike Deo, damn. The other day my Addidas lower got torn Damn. The cold war between me and that mean roommate is getting intense. Ma is getting angrier, I am getting fatter ( wait NO, I am making Gold gym guys richer what I mean to say is I am not losing weight).

I lost my kajal today but hell I got it back. I hope same happens with my deo, Damn my deo. I am always in bad mood, seems like I am PMSing all the time.

OK, this is long due post. I wrote it during my Jobless, loveless , lifeless phase of my life. Well, things didn't change much since then but they are still better. I was extremely suicidal one night and called a friend who is no longer my friend named Jhandu. The conversation was like this.

Me: Tell me some foolproof ways to commit suicide

Jhandu : What? Why do you want to kill yourself?

Me: Answer that

Jhandu: Just because you didn't get job or that guy?

Me: I am not going to die because of that guy.

Jhandu: Just because of that job?

Me: Whatever

Jhandu: Dekh, you are a girl, people will TALK , if you commit suicide.

Me: Like I care

Jhandu: Your Chachi will say " didn'i I say she is Awara ". Your Mama Mami will say " Aur bhejo ladki ko baaher". Your Bua will say " she was pregnant. I knew that. Did you see the kind of clothes she would wear."

Me: Shut up. Tell me the right way else I will hung up.

Jhandu: Wait. You belong to a well to do family. People will say " ek ladki nahi sambhal paaye".

Me: Cyanide for 20,000? saale I didn't spend that much on my life and you are asking me to shell out for my death?

Jhandu: Arey. Your funeral will cost more than your all birtdays combined.

Me: what if I didn't die? Will he return my money?

Jhandu: Arey yaar cyanide kha ke koun bachta hai?

Share seven random things about yourself

1) I am not a cleanliness freak but that doesn't mean I detest cleanliness. It simply means I can live in a mess. I take no pain to put clothes and shoes at right place.

2) I don't want arrange marriage but hell I will have to have that.

3) I work with newspaper and that is hindering my Shaadi thing. Bloody Ganwaar people don't respect my profession. I really don't care but my parents do. Hai koi Maai ka Laal, jo mere ko apni biwi banaaye( Only Rajpoot candidates will be entertained.)

4) I am rude, very rude.

5) I don't like the city I live in.

6) I love lip balms, currently I have two Nevia lip balms.

7) I can cook fairly well but cannot make Roti. See my sample here

OK, This Shadi.com thing is off my back now for time being. But hell, it had made me think a lot about this Shadi thing of late. Every time I think of it,comes a voice YOU ARE NOT READY FOR IT. Yes, why should I marry just because I am at 'right age'. Let's not talk about the 'right age', as we all know it varies from person to person. You might be ready at 18 and you might not be at 37! No wonder Celebs marry so late! Waise jab ghar me doodh aa raha hai toh gaaye paalne ki kya zaroorat?

I met a 22-year-old student at Gym who got married at 18! She lives with her husband and his parents in US. She was just 17, when she got to know that she will be married off. I asked her how did she convince herself for marriage at 17. She said that she had no ambition and always wanted to be with that 'some one' special ( it was an arranged marriage). And also she liked the idea of being married and wearing bridal clothes.

She is continuing with her studies and says that she is really happy!

And I also met this 30 year woman who got married at 29 and she told me that marriage is the worst thing ever happened to her. And no, her husband is not a wife beater. She just misses her single days. Although she claims that she still hangs around with friends and does whatever she want to, still the feeling that she is not alone bothers her.

I totally agree that at some point of time you need someone. But when does that point come? Has age got anything to do with that?

So, finally Mom got me registered with Shadi.com. I didn't know what to say when that executive( whatever she is called) asked me " what are your requirements". It made me laugh, it felt like she is selling me something, like you know washing machine or microwave. Not knowing what to say I just said " Someone I can live with, that's all".

After some days that executive will find me a techie, whose family will contact mine. Then I will talk to that guy on phone, if we liked each other, we will meet next. And if we didn't like other, that executive will show me next model.

I had always believed in the concept of arranged marriage and now that it is really happening I am panicking. No, I am not getting married next week, next month , not even next year but the idea of seeing model one after another is giving me goose bumps.

I am not going to feel what I felt for HIM ever. In fact, now I don't believe in love. I am marrying simply because my parents want me to and also because I want children.

I wasn't planing to fall in love with HIM, seriously I wasn't looking for it, it was an accident. And now that I am planning to meet guys, would I be able to feel even one percent of what I felt for HIM?

I am just talking about the initial stage of this marriage bakchodi( I am sorry cant help it), which is nothing but MEETING. I am not over HIM, so the question is should I meet guys after I get over HIM or is it the right time now?

Ok, I was just googling , I don't know exactly what, when I found this.

This is about a forty year old Air India engineer who married 14 times. No, he wouldn't marry just anyone, he had penchant for Bramhin girls. He even changed is surname so that he could catch bramhin girls.

What was he looking for? Sex? No, why would one marry just because he wants sex. Money? No, the story doesn't mention that. Did he just love the idea of getting married? You know shopping and eating Shadi ka Khana. Or was he inspired by Ruskin Bond's novel?

He would always look for working women and what's more shocking ( funny) that he was in touch with all his wives. And his wives who would take care of him when ran out of money. Kya baat hai, aisi 140 bhi ho toh kya gum hai!!

But what were girls' thinking? I mean didn't they go for routine chaan been before they told there parents " Ma, papa maine ladka dhoond liya hai ". And what were Ma Papa doing?

Blame it on caste system, I am sure Bramhin factor must have triggered parents to say yes. Or life in Metro( He is from Mumbai) is so busy that people don't have time to know others well, not even the one they intend to spend their lives with.

This is a long due post I wanted to write about my roommates with their real names. I know they would never read this but I still believe this is the best day to dedicate the post to them, after all they know me the way my family does ( not really)!

When I decided to leave home and come out in the real world, I was happy and nervous both. Happy because I was going to live on my own with all my freedom and I was nervous for the same reason.

I wanted to live all alone like Ayesha ( Konkana Sen) in Wake up Sid did. Yes, I was so Wake Up Sid struck but now I know that it was just a movie. When the movie ends, real life begins. I first landed to my Chacha's place and lived there for some one month before I found a PG. Yes, finding an independent flat in my budget was not easy.

I shifted to South Delhi, that's where my first PG was and my first roommate was Shobhna. Actually we were not exactly roommates but had common entrance and washroom. She was from Chattishgarh and was married. Preparation for NET brought her to Delhi. She was someone who kept to herself, that was nice but what was not nice that she had this feeling that I have come all the way from Lucknow just to disturb her! She had problem with whatever I would do, my work timings, my phone, my friends and you name it.

The bucket we had in the washroom belonged to her and I offered her the half of the cost so that I can use it too but she refused. But that was not nice of her, one fine day I saw that bucket chained with bed. My god now who does that? Next thing I did was to go to local market and buy a cute pink bucket. And that psycho left after few days saying I disturb her a lot and she cant live with me.

Then came Naina , a sweet Panjabi girl who lived in Hisar. She was there to prepare for GATE. She was a perfect roommate, we would share our food, clothes, shoes and every possible thing we could share. I was heart broken that time ( I still am) and used to cry alone in dark but she would never let me do that when she was around. She would wipe my tears and try to inspire me with stories, which would actually relieve me for some time.

One evening I told her that I need a razor and she asked " are you sure, you are going to buy it." I said why not and then she said what was obvious. " you know when you ask shopkeepers for razor, their minds start wandering." But we still went to dingy lanes to get our razors. And when we came back we were all drenched in the rain. After bathing when I asked her to come out for tea at local tea shop she said " kya didi aap bhi, log kahenge kar kura ka, naha k, dono chali ab chaye peene".

And I left that PG for another PG which was in South Extension. For the first few days, I lived all alone in that room which was meant for three girls. But there was this girl one named Sonia who had her stuffs in that room but lived in another room with her friends.
She was a Sradanri who had lived in Gorakhpur all her life and was was in Delhi ummm I don't know what for. She had habit of bitching and within one week I knew who fights, who smokes, who drinks, who is sleeping with whom, who wears padded bra and who doesn't wash her underwear.

I left for home on weekends and Sonia left the PG. When I came back, I was greeted by two lovely girls calling introducing themselves as my roommates . And now three girls including me were living the room which was actually meant for three. One girl was from Asaam and other was a Muslim from Kashmir and they were named Bedika and Sarhat respectively.

We didn't speak initially, thanks to our different work timings. They would come back at 3 am and I would hit the bed at 12. For many days we only saw each other sleeping! But we would talk on Sunday and soon Bedika left and I was left with Sarhat.

Soon Sarhat found 9 to 5 job and I got jobless! We would interact a lot about our cultures, food, native lands and curse the men who didn't love us back! We would not go out to eat or just to walk but we used to chat a lot, about anything under the sun. And I left Delhi to work in Jaipur. My Wake -Up- Sid wish was once again not answered and I am living in a PG again with roommates and some of them are from hell! . But I would write about them once I am out of this city!

I have written about this Bitch thing earlier. I am pretty OK with this word now, all the women of substance are labelled as bitches, big deal? Every Alpha, Beta , Gama female is called bitch, right?

That was about urban India. In some parts of rural India, poor helpless women are labeled as 'witches', someone who is suspected of practicing black magic and witchcraft. Not just labeled, they are blamed for all the wrong things in the village hence tortured and sometimes beaten to death! The practice is called witch- hunting and is prevalent in Rajasthan, Haryana, Andhra Pradesh, Asam , Gujraat, Chattisgarh and Maharashtra.

There are no statistics available regarding this simply because such cases are not reported. But according to unofficial estimates, some 2500 women are killed in past 15 years after being branded as witches in different parts of the country.

Law has been made under which calling woman Daayan, chudail, Bhootni etc is a punishable offense but still this evil practice is very much alive and kicking!

And slutwalk in a country like India where females are not safe even in their mothers' womb is an absolutely stupid idea. As per survey India is the fourth most unsafe country for women, number one being Afganistan.

Girls covered from head to toe are raped in day light in our rape capital, forget about mini skirts and tank tops. and no wonder sluwalk/Besharmi Morcha got lukewarm response.

We only talk about rapes here, what about various other kind of sexual harassment like boobs/butt grabbing, calling maal/item/Chamiya. Do we go to cops and complain about them?

Yes, it's true, no girl ever " asks for it" but this is not Canada or USA, where women can freely commute without the fear of getting raped. Yes, society needs to change not the length of our skirts but Indian society is different from western societies. Here women are molested irrespective of their clothes.

Mindless copying of western feminism is no good. Safety and right to life is the issue here not short skirts.

They are starved for two weeks, not given water for 2 days and kept in dark for 3-4 days. This process is called forced molting process. During molting, hens’ feathers fell down and new sets of feather are grown, they don’t produce eggs during this process.

For god sake it’s an Aamir Khan movie, you have no choice but to expect a total entertainer and “some thing different.” And Delhi Belly doesn’t disappoint you.

Tashi( Imran Khan) is a journalist working with an English daily and has a sweet busty fiancé Soniya ( shenaz Treasurewaala). Oh, he has hot colleague Meneka too. Nitin ( Kunal Roy Kapoor) is his Photog, who is a desperado, a permanent loosie and makes you disgust him. And Arup is a “cartoonist” in an ad agency ( OK, did they mean illustrator?) who hates his boss and whose girlfriend jilts him for an Amrika return techie. And it’s just not women who go for haircut after break up; this guy actually shaves his head!

Life was not exactly smooth for them but one fine day Soniya gets them a parcel and life becomes like Bhaag DK Bose, DK Bose, DK Bose...

Usage of profane language is not something that raises our eye brows; this one just is just step higher! I wonder how many beep- beep will be used if this 96 minutes with no break will be shown on TV. And not to forget those “X rated scenes”, what would we be left with if that is deleted?

Nevertheless, this movie is made for youth population. It is neither meaningful like Peepli live nor “deep” like Dhobhi ghaat, this one is just meant to make you laugh. Did Aamir Khan say “ Leave your mind at home before you watch this movie”?

And it has got nothing to do with Delhi, it could have been based on any city.

I had no clue what to expect and what to not when I left home on this date a year back. Now that I look back, I realize it has been a truly a roller coaster ride.It has been full of surprises, well some of them I loved, some I hated. This one year gave me memories for lifetime. I live in Jaipur but thanks to my odd working hours and also the cruel sun, I am yet to explore all those historical places and Bazars. I am always busy bringing vegetables, fruits, milk and groceries home( my HOSTEL), living alone is not as much fun as shown in Wake Up Sid. But nothing against that movie I just love it <3. But wait, I have a LIFE and one of those days I went to MOCHA, the coffee joint. I am very fond of coffee shops and can spend hours there ( If someone else pays the bill). I fell in love with MOCHA as soon as I entered. And soon I found myself taking pics without caring about those looks on attenders faces.

I was full at stomach but still cared and dared to order something. After roughly scanning the Menu card I asked for Irish Coffee. And yuck, it was the worst Irish Coffee ever went down my throat! But it's still nice place and I can still spend hours there( If someone else pays the bill).

Eww, it tasted like hot whiskey, I know Irish coffee is all about whiskey and whipped cream. But this one was just about Whiskey!

I wake up in the morning with stingy swollen eyes. As I look into mirror while washing my face I say to myself “ damn, it’s all washed away with tears, for god sake I have a LIFE”.

While preparing breakfast sleepy me thinks “It’s all OVER, he is nowhere, I have deleted him from my phone and chat lists. There is no way I can contact him now."

As I leave for work I make promise to myself never to cry for him again.

After reaching office as I type my server password all the moments spent with him start flashing and I say FUCK

After work ,I come out for smoke and realize I have a job that pays me well and freedom I had always lusted for, there is nothing that is missing

I come back, throw my bag get, into comfortable clothes and I try to sleep. I say to myself “my tears can dry but the feelings I have for him are here to stay.

Then I think so what if I have deleted him from my phonebook and chat list, I still remember his number and how can I ever delete him from my mind, heart and soul?

I am writing it because it’s been there in my mind for long. I am in my hostel and both my roommates are talking to their boyfriends right now. One of them kept talking whole night yesterday and did’nt let me sleep. One girl lets call her S is going Muaah Muaah again and calling him Shona and other girl lets call her R wants to know why didn't he call last night. Both of them keep telling me that they know their boyfriends love them a lot. They fight, they crib and still they know their men love them. One thing that is common in them is that both of them are good looking. All the girls I know who are in relationship are good looking. I am serious , none of my plain looking girls are committed. So it’s just the looks that gets us love, right? I know girls who are rude and treat their men as trash but still their men are crazy about about them simply because they don't want to lose their good looking girlfriend. No wonder girls get panicked when they see pimple on their face or little paunch. One girl I know doesn't want to meet her boyfriend because she has gained weight, she will only see him after getting back to shape. The reason is simple, she knows that her boyfriend loves her because of her looks.

Few of my friends have got IITian boyfriends. There is this girl in my hostel whose boyfriend is in last semester in IIT Kharagpur. This guy loves to flaunt his girlfriend and has put her pictures all over facebook and doesn't want to see pimples on her face. He blows all his money and his girl knows all his passwords. I know many IITians who just want one thing from girls, that is looks, Why would they want brain? They already have enough of it, isn't it?

I am not writing this because I am plain looking and never got love ( Or may be I am) . I have had a relationship and that made me learn that I am not a relationship types person. I am too full of myself and my problems to be in relationship. I don't know if my Ex loved me at all, I simply don;t t know why he was with me. I just know that I never loved him. I loved only person in my life and he never cared. One of the reason why he didn't love me back could be I am not good looking. I cant say anything, I am clear about my feelings and he is clear about his. I know guys can never compromise on looks. There is this blogmate who wants to get married but not to average looking girl. He would always show me pics of TROPHY girls who rejected him. I don't exactly why I am mad, but right now I am thinking of my new roommate. This ultra thin girl is deriving me crazy with her Behenji attitude. She is some 3.5 years younger than me but treats me as a Buzurg and calls me Didi. That's fine but why continuously reminding me that I am not thin like her. Last night she said " Didi, you don't carry your clothes well, I know you can't wear clothes like I do, you are so fat for that". Waah , now this Chattisgarhi will tell me that I don't carry myself well. The other day she said " Itni umar me bhi thoda sa glow baaki hai, mujhe dekho meri skin kitni dull hai". I would always hate Sundays when I was in my first year of my college. I was loving my newly acquired freedom and hanging around with friends who later turned into foes . But that was only in first year, Sunday Monday didn't matter during rest of the graduation and Post graduation, I was hardly seen in college. And now that I am working and living all alone I yearn for Sunday and my Sunday is Thursday. So I had my much deserved and coveted off today. I have a pretty awkward work schedule, I leave my hostel at 4 pm and come back at 1 am, now you can imagine how badly I need such breaks. So today I woke up late ( as usual) , went to parlor and then went for fruit shopping and then back and watched Turning 30

I kinda liked that movie but it was too gloomy. Movie starts with “ smoking is harmful “ Ok we know that, what next? Then comes Gul’s Bf who is just perfect . He cooks in olive oil, takes her on long drive and talks about kids. Her job is perfect too. But her world turns upside down just a week before her 30^th birthday. She almost loses her job and her BF dumps her for another girl who is younger and of course richer than Gul. Bechari Gul is all shattered and broken, she smokes , she drinks and continously utters the word which rhymes with duck! And then comes back her Ex and needless to say he is still in love with her and ready to marry. Bhagwaan jab ek khirki band karta hai toh do darwaaaze khol deta hai. What happens after that is quite obvious , Ex1 comes back but she choses to be with EX 2 and she gets her rocking job back too.

I expected this movie to be much better but then it was not as bad as our critics rated. I interviewed the director, who is 31 and said that every urban girl would be able to relate to the character Naina Gul played. Yes I agree to some extent. Gul keeps saying again and again “ I am 30, For god sake I am not 22, I am 30". Aaouch it reminds me that I am oldest in my hostel, well other girls are still studying. But they obviously look younger than me, they don't have dark circles and most of them are thinner than me. That glow I used to have on my skin is long gone and it worries me. No I am not turning thirty, I am not even close to that but the thought of having wrinkled face and sagging boobs gives me goosebumps. But then it’s natural , u cant stay young forever and I find young- at- heart thing utterly crap . I mean Imagine a 40 year old wearing a torn jeans or a 50 year old flirting with somebody who is 23. Chalo enough bakwaas , going to sleep

What do you do when you meet an old friend after a long time? You talk about good old days, what you wanted to do then and what you are doing now. You laugh at the mistakes that made you cry then. And you also talk about stuffs like marriage and all. You realize how 'mature' you have grown in all these years.

Same happened when I met my friend Shunnu after 1.5 years. We both left our home town to chase our dreams. She for a course in film making and photography and I for a job in print Media. That girl who once hated the concept of boyfriend-girlfriend was openly talking about live-in and casual relationship. I remember the 15 minutes lecture she gave on ' why girls should not be smoking and drinking', and that day she was telling me why does she hate Vodka and like rum and also why she prefers Gold Flake over Will's Navy cut! I was not at all surprised to see such a drastic change in her. I had been living in a PG in Delhi and had seen many Behenji turned Mod. I wont say she was really a Behenji but she clearly lacked openness in her thoughts. The city and surrounding she lives in changed her for good. The city i was living in changed me too, again for good. No I didn't start smoking or boozing , I was already into all these things. Casual relationship or live-in relationship with someone I don't love is something I would never go for, come what may.

Yes Delhi and my ex- office environment taught me many things. The biggest thing I learnt that it is not right to be vocal about your feelings all the time. Yes, it is very difficult for a person like me but chup rehna padega. One more thing I learnt that there is nothing like 'Busy" it's all about priority. I would work 13-14 hours a day but I always had time to call my loved ones. I made sure that I always stay in touch with friends who were there for me in my thick and thin.

And editing copies, filing stories, giving headlines and chasing deadlines are important but not more than me. In that I- have -proved -myself phase one thing that completely got neglected was me. Sometimes the only thing missing from life is LIFE ( Pesto sauce said that).

And finally love yourself more than your work when your boss is an asshole ( a friend said that)\

I am gonna start something new in a new city. Please wish me luck guys.

Confession of a fat woman

I want to be size zero, but without switching over to zero calorie food. I eat everything that is full of calories and not to forget extra butter, cheese and my favorite desi ghee. And sometimes I eat even when I am not at all hungry. I keep reading about different diet programmes but follow none. I set my alarm every night for morning walk and need I say what I do in the morning? Yes, I put the damn alarm off and go back to my sweet morning slumber. And the day I go for morning walk, I have the felling that I have ‘burnt’ enough and hog all day.

I look at skinny looking girls and say” I don’t want to be this skinny,” but fact is I wish to be even skinnier than them. I hate those who say “you are not fat just a bit healthy. I feel like slapping those anorexic looking girls who keep on asking “Am I fat? Do I look fat in this dress?”

I want to wear tank tops, spaghetti tops, those cute body hugging tops but all I can wear are loose Kurtas. All I think about is my weight but then I also think about food!

Writer's Block

Ok, with Fuller's earth pack on my face and with some great music I am writing this. And I am writing not because I have thoughts , it's just I really need to end the writer's block I am facing. I had been living in Delhi on my own for the last eight months, each day was worth writing but thanks to my WRITER'S BLOCK I couldn't pen a word or was I too busy writing about celebs, trends,launches and you name it?

Just finished reading Devil wears Prada ( pretty old!) and Andrea Sachs is so me! Well, I believe every boss is inhumane and unreasonable, I have never heard anyone saying "Wow my boss is so nice I love her". And when you work for a newspaper expect your boss to be nothing less than an ogre. I have faced what Andrea what Andrea faced expect I didn't ask my boss to fuck herself. I politely left saying " It was really nice working under you, thank you Ma'm, I learnt a lot".

I am loving this holi festive fever. I am eating everything that would make me fat( fatter and I am cooking too. Fuck man, can't write anymore.

Writing from the place where I learnt that writing is what I want to do for living. Yes, I am home after six months but just for four days. I wont say cliche "I realized how much I miss home" and all that because it is pretty obvious. How desperate I was to live the kind of life I live in Delhi. I live all alone, have job in Media that makes me work like crazy. And I have all the freedom in the world! But home is Lucknow. But then you can't have everything.

I love my job to the core. Well yes, there are couple of people at my work place who would do everything to make my life hell but then did somebody say the course of true love is never easy? And true love is journalism!

Yes chasing CELEBS is pain, but finally getting the interview and seeing my name in the paper is a bliss. It's very annoying when I don't get words for proper intro, but then I realize you cant write masterpiece all the time!

It hurts when I work all the time without appreciation but it's fine, yeah really. I hate it when SHE yells at me for that silly silly mistake but then who cares.

Those frequent Mumbai trips, HIS city. And then coming office straight from the Airport.

It feels good when CNN and New York Times journalist call me and say " nice story,can we do follow up please"

It is one of those confused posts. I am working like crazy and I am not even being appreciated. Okay, who is dying for appreciation, I know I am doing good. Mumbai was good, would love to visit again and again. If given a chance would love to work there too. Journalists there have brains and they dont believe in show shaw. Thanks to my bad cold couldn't have street food there and I am still regretting, Chalo would try next time.

When I watched Peepli Live

It was Baap- k- paise -udaao day yesterday. Actually it is everyday but yesterday I spent even more mercilessly, without thinking twice ( I am known for my saving skills).
I shopped( a book only), ate and watched the movie I had been longing to watch for so long. So with a book named AIDS Sutra, which is all about 'Untold' stories from India about AIDS on my lap I watched another UNTOLD story about 'other' India. We all know what I mean when I say OTHER INDIA. Rural India, where 70% of the total population reside.

I am not gonna write the movie review, the movie reportedly covered its expenses before its release,so obviously movie is nothing less than good. I"ll just write few things that were running in my mind while I was watching it with a overpriced bottle of mineral water in my hand.

Couple of years back, when I was interning with a leading national daily, the editor in the usual morning was talking about her visit to some very poor village in Sonabhadra(UP). There was hardly anyone in the whole village who could arrange two meals a day for himself and his family. There was no health centre, no school,no roads,just dust and heat everywhere. Most importantly, there was no water.The only well was well dried up and people used to dig earth for water and the water they would get used to be all muddy so they would use thick cloth to strain the soil out.

All they could ask the editor was to arrange portable water for the village( they took her as some Neta). So, how blessed was I to hold that overpriced mineral water bottle! As the movie started I was immediately reminded of this incident.

One thing most of us agree on that the movie is very real. The people,the situations, the language( It was 'A'Certificate) and everything. Yes, village people are actually that innocent.Once an old woman said to me "Bitiya, eee baar paani nahi barsa hai, dhaan sukhat hai, sarkar se keh kar kuch karwaao" ( It didn't rain this year, crops are drying up, ask Government to do something). Now what can government do about that? Government can only run superficial schemes like one this movie shows, "Lal Bahadur Shashtri",a handpump nicknamed Lal Bahadur. And that IAS officer hands that without giving " phitting k paise". And yes that Bechara IAS officer and people say it's the most respectful post of the nation

The Saas Bahu nok jhok makes the movie even more lively. Khatiaridden Saas blaming her Bahu for everything is rib tickling funny. And the way the child asks his father " Baapu kab maoroge, batao na kab maroge", so that he can become policeman with the compensation money is so innocent.

The politicians who would never care suddenly come alive during the election. What to say about them!

And our over zeleos Electronic Media,let's leave them too. That Fattaak english speaking journalist Nandita( Maliaka shenoy) is awesome. And her hindi competitor is good too.The way Nandita uses that small time Hindi journo looks so real. Yes , this how big fish eat small fish. And small fish offer all they have thinking someday they Will be all they want to be.

And about farmer suicides, Director Anusha Rizvi said " Nothing has changed since 1857"

Nirumapa Pathak was a 23 year old journalist with a leading English business daily and also an IIMC alumni, the most coveted mass communication institute in India . A small town girl hailing from Jhumritalaiya is no more now because she was a Brahmin ki ladki and the partner she chose for herself Priyabhanshu Ranjan, a Bihari boy was Kayasth ka ladka, who was her batch mate at IIMC and journalist with a top news agency. And it’s none other than her own mother who killed her.

Honour killing what it is popularly known as, killing the family member to save the honour of the family. We must have heard of incidences of honor killing in Jat and Gujjar villages where Panchayat decides to kill the couples who dare to fall in love, but this journalist incident surely going to be the rarest of the rare case where the girl belongs to the educated family.

Her father is a bank employee and both her brothers are PhDs. Her family didn’t mind sending her to Delhi to get post graduate degree in media, a glamorous field and after completing her studies she was working in the same city; her parents were okay with that too. What they were not okay with was the fact that their daughter was in love with a Kayaasth boy whom she intent to marry soon. In some interview his father said “first we should look for the match in our own caste, if there are no options left then only we should look at other castes’’. His statement truly indicates that they are not even guilty of committing this heinous crime.

It’s true that parents decide best for their children and it’s also true that Indian parents get paranoid about their daughter’s marriage from the very beginning but is this so called honour is bigger than their daughter’s happiness and life? And now that this journalist is dead, is family’s head held high? Their daughter‘s pregnancy came into news, the killer mom got arrested and surely the honour has gone to the ashes. If the family had agreed for their marriage the soreness of giving their daughter to some other caste would have lasted for a short while but now the stigma attached because of the murder would last forever.

They probably must have wanted to marry off their journalist daughter to some Brahmin engineer, MBA or IAS and would have given loads of dowry. And this is the reason why most of Indian middle class parents want their daughters to get good education, not because they want them to lead good independent life but to make groom hunting easier. And what if the ideal groom they chose turned out to be a real beast and makes their daughters life hell? They would do everything to settle out the matter but the doors to their homes will be closed forever. Once the daughter is married off everything is over, now the Sasaural is the place for her, no matter even if she is killed there. Because khandan ki izzat is all in daughter’s hand as Sonam kapoor rightly said in Dilli 6 “ khandan ki izzat ka theka toh betiyo ne hi le rakha hai “.

Parents have got every right to stop their children from taking wrong decisions. But what was so wrong with the decision that this journalist took? Okay, she was not an “ideal Indian middle class daughter” as she went away for studies, had a boyfriend and was sexually active with him but did she deserve to be killed? That girl was financially independent and the man she was in love was also not dependent on anyone for the money. They both were adult and could have easily married at court or at some temple, but still they were looking for their parents’ agreement and the boy must be surely thinking now that they should have better tied the knot without even informing her parents.

What’s the lesson middle class working daughters or any daughter have learnt from this incident? That elope with your boyfriend, parents would never understand that we are living in 21^st century now and it’s high time that we should shun this castiesm. They would never understand that “love marriage” is not that bad idea, it is any day better than “dowryfull” arranged marriage. It is love and understanding that matters at the end of the day so what if the love and understanding daughters are getting from somebody who is of other caste or even religion ! But as they say it take ages to change mentality.

I broke up with my boyfriend ages ago and I m happy being single. Actually that relationship never made me feel “committed”. I mean no monthly, weekly or daily anniversaries, I always had time for my girlies , I would dress up the way I liked, passwords weren’t exchanged and no wonder he dumped me !!

Ok, I agree that every relationship demands some amount of sacrifice and compromise, but does that mean we should forget ourselves and become what our partners want us to be? Ok, that is very personal, whether you want to be dictated or not. I am going to write what my friends, friends turned foe, people I think they are my friends and people who are almost friends face in that thing called LOVE

I used to be very ambitious and career oriented a few months ago just like you are now Arey, ab kya ho gaya? Just because you are "committed" now all your ambitions and desires are gone with the wind? Now is your only aim is to make your boyfriend happy? Ok that is pretty fine, but can’t your career and your boyfriend go together? And does your boyfriend understand what a big sacrifice you are making for him? And what if he dumps you? Wouldn’t you regret then choosing him over your career?
This girl is super talented and I really really feel bad when she talks like that. Please concentrate on your career girl; he would wait if he really loves you.

Can you lend me some money, need to buy morning pills, he did it without any protection. Of course I would, I care and don’t want you to get into any trouble but I wish your boyfriend thought the same. It’s fine if that happens once in a while but to my surprise her boyfriend skips condom very often. And why hell he does not take the responsibility of your pills? Since it is none of those things, I wouldn’t give you a penny. I would have given a second thought if it was his birthday or something but what the hell is this half yearly anniversary yaar? It was a regular evening, I was out for my regular walk and what happened to me was also very very regular, it's just most of us choose to I G N O R E and forget, yes I am talking about eve teasing. The damn incident took place near a crowded shopping center, I was walking and he came forward and tried to grab my boob. I stopped him and grabbed his hand , at this he said " ohh sorry" and started running. I ran after him but damn my stupid slippers betrayed me and I slipped. I shouted at top of my lungs but hell all in vein. Chalo, I didn't ignore like most of the girls do and I am somewhat proud of myself for that.

What fucking annoying me is that the place was really crowded and nobody cared to give a damn to what was happening there. I would have definitely beaten that bastard black and blue if those MEN had helped a bit . But damn they were busy watching Tamasha.

Guys this is one of the reasons why we girls choose to I G N N O R E because people just enjoy watching Tamasha and simply don't believe in taking action. I would have taught that bastard lesson of his life if I had I got little help from those bloody men.

But whatever that bastard knows now that it is not easy to get away with thing like that. There are some females like me who have courage to react and beat the hell out of bastards like him.

Behind my back and on my face, by the men who mattered the most and who didn’t matter at all, I have been called THAT many time and hell it hurts.

Wikipedia says “Its original use as a vulgarism, documented to the fourteenth century, suggested high sexual desire in a woman, comparable to a female dog in a heat”. When female dog is in her heat period she becomes ferocious and all she needs is a good fuck. Damn just because I am not going their way I am a FEMALE DOG IN HEAT.

We must have come across many bitch quotes and poems. They clearly say that smart, intelligent independent independent, successful, good looking and blah blah women are called bitch by certain( all) kind of men. Well in that case the day is not far when husbands would say “know what, my wife is perfect bitch and I love her”. Moms looking for bride would say “ I am looking for nice bitch for my son and fathers of the bride would proudly say “ My daughter is such a bitch, you will love her. We would see in matrimony column " A bitch is wanted for a 5'10 law graduate Panjabi boy. Mother and sisters both are super bitches and same is expected from the bride". Cow is considered as a sacred animal in our country. Slaughter or killing of this holy animal triggers violent protest by Hindus. Cow slaughtering is already banned by Hindu Fundamentalists group in many parts of the country.

Look at the pictures above. They are clicked randomly at different parts of my city(Lucknow) though they all look same. Hundreds of cows die every year by consuming polythene. A decade ago a bill was passed to ban plastic but that bill could never turn into act. But what's the alternative certainly not the paper bags. Any IDEA???

I hate to admit it but I think I am really facing WRITER'S BLOCK. I wouldn't talk about that. A lot is happening in my life. My ex got married(again ex puraan) and I wish him happy married life! I am loving my new work and the boss is very supportive too.

My friend Gunnu is online and I am talking to her. My heart bleeds every time I think of her. Such mess she is in. She has been in a FORCED relationship with a guy for the past 10 years. The guy is really Gunda type but is crazy about her. She used to like him too untill she met Chooha. Hehehhe, I know Gunnu, you would hate me for this, but that's what he was.

Her affair with chooha hardly lasted for 15 days and it happened some four years ago. But my damn friend is still stuck on him, chhoha has made his burrow in her heart!

Okay, now she is engaged with that Gunda, but she says she doesn't like him, doesn't want to be with him and what not. And if she leaves him, he would kill himself. Their families think that she is really happy as she is engaged with the guy of HER CHOICE.

And I was just wondering if Tunnu can think of anything beyond her hair and skin. She doesn't want to work in Delhi just because she thinks Delhi's pollution would affect her hair and skin!

Loreto Convent, city's happening girls school had their alumni meet yesterday. While watching the whose- Mumbai- it- is thing on the news channels, the thought of checking Saamna, the Marathi daily sputtered inside my head. But wait, thats the Marathi Daily, how on earth I could read that. I typed " Samna in Hindi " on the search bar and this was exactly what I was looking for, the Hindi edition of Thakrey's newspaper.

Damn, I dint I Google out that earlier. There was a news by Patna Sawaadata( Patna Correspondent) about Rahul Gandhi headlined as " Kyu Balbala rahe Hai Rahul? No Hindi translation for this as I don't know what does Balbalana mean. Interesting, isn't it?

Not only this, there was an editorial too inside, titled " Ghanchakkar Rahul"( How cool is that?). The tittle said everything, the sole aim of the editorial was to make Rahul's izzat ki dhajji. Better see Saamna to know more and trust me all those who don't support this Congress ke Yuvraaj would love this to the core.

And there was a full page dedicated to the news related to UP and Bihar. All negative, but that was expected, right? Now ,Mr Thakrey, a page full of administrative failures of UP and Bihar and still wondering why do North Indians migrate to YOUR CITY?????

PS: I saw some stories written by people with sir names like Tripathi, Mishra and Singh. They are typical NORTH INDIAN sir names, but then who knows.
